New report explores gap between need and availability of low-income housing units for poor renters:  The gap between the number of affordable housing units and poor renters in the United States is at an all-time high. In 2010 there were only 5.4 million rental units that cost less than $458 a month, while there were 10.9 million households earning less than $18,310 a year.At the same time, from 2007 to 2010 there was a 20% increase in homeless families in the United States.
