The Homeless Coalition worked with numerous organizations including:  faith community, shelter, emergency services, prevention, government, housing and more.  We held focus groups with dozens of families from around Hamilton County.  We crunched years worth of statistics.  2012 will be spent working on  policy recommendations. Homeless in Cincinnati Study

A study of the causes and conditions of homelessness prepared for The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless by Applied Information Resources (AIR, Inc.) Funded by The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati The Greater Cincinnati Foundation September 2001. In 1986, researchers completed a comprehensive study to better understand and quantify homelessness, a social trend which afflicted not just Cincinnati but the entire nation. At that time, the researchers saw their work as a one-time undertaking. They thought that the lessons learned from their subsequent description would improve social services, thereby counteract homelessness. An improving economy would further hasten the reduction of the number of homeless people. A second study, completed in 1993, showed that their expectations would not be met. Not only had the number of homeless people increased, but the conditions that pushed people into homelessness had expanded. In addition, the composition of the homeless population had changed, becoming made up of more women, children, and African-Americans. In 2000, the study was repeated again, and the findings are even more disturbing.
